The Cube, Leith Street, Edinburgh

The development at The Cube, Edinburgh comprises some 6500m² of grade A office space with main floor plates of 1250m² sq ft, and a top floor office suite of 600 m². It is located on Leith Street, at the east end of Princes Street, with immediate access to Waverley Station, St. Andrews, Calton Square and the St. James Centre.

In July 2008 Sir Robert McAlpine awarded ConForce the subcontract to supply and install the post tensioning system to 6 floors of this project. The installation includes around 1000 no tendons using 80 tons of 15.7mm strand; the components are being installed in accordance with drawings produced by McAlpine Design Group. Some of the slabs span over long distances between supports resulting in thick slabs with high levels of prestress; this is dealt with by using the larger tendon of 4/15 ( 4 no 15.7 strands). Each strand is stressed in 2 stages to a force of 212kN once the required concrete cube strength has been reached. Site works started in early November 2008 with completion planned for March 2009. This project enhances our portfolio of projects with Sir Robert McAlpines and maintains our presence on major post tensioning projects in Edinburgh.
