The project at Bicester Village is the construction of a new Car Park which involves the installation of post tensioned slabs on a typical 7.5 x 14.8 grid. Post tensioned beams span in the 14.8m direction with 4 tendons per beam and also in the slabs spanning in the other direction. All tendons are of the bonded type using standard Conforce anchorages and ducts. Many car parks today use post tensioning and due to the long spans involved it enables the beam and slab depth to be considerably reduced compared to traditional R.C, this significantly reduces the overall height of the car park. In addition to this the post tensioning system imparts compression into all sections of the concrete thereby aiding crack control and durability which can be an issue in car park decks. Conforce began work on-site in May 2007 on the first of 9 slab installations with a project completion date of September 2007. |
